This two-day intensive course provides the essential knowledge about avalanches and their risks. ⛷️🏂
You will learn to identify avalanche terrain, understand how human factors influence decision-making, and practice companion rescue skills. The course includes both theory and practical exercises in the stunning landscapes of Northern Norway around Tromsø, Kvaløya and Lyngen.
Part of the theory is covered remotely before the course so we can spend as much time as possible in the mountains. A suitable remote session date is agreed together with the participants.
Course content:
- Basics of avalanches
- Safety mindset and risk management
- Decision-making processes in the field
- Interpreting weather and avalanche forecasts
- Route planning and terrain assessment
- Use of avalanche safety equipment and companion rescue practice
